Strings for Solace

We provide comfort and solace through classical music performances to those experiencing physical or mental restrictions, and provide opportunities for student musicians to perform for live audiences outside their school.

Who We Are

Strings For Solace (SFS) is a California-based non-profit organization dedicated to providing music as a community service. Our volunteer performers are classical music students, who have a passion for sharing music with members of their local communities.

How It Works

Strings For Solace (SFS) maintains a database of nursing homes and healthcare institutions interested in having student musicians perform for their patients or residents. SFS also maintains a database of students interested in performing for the institutions in their greater neighborhoods.

Musicians

Institutions

When an institution requests a performance, our database will match the zip code of the institution with the musicians living in the same zip code or adjacent zip codes. Musicians are contacted for availability, and an ensemble of 2 to 3 musicians is formed. The ensemble is put together according to availability, instrument played, and skill level. Once the ensemble is finalized, the institution is informed, and the date of performance is confirmed.

Strings For Solace will provide each student with a $50 stipend to cover snacks and transportation costs. Students who are less than 16 years of age are required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

While priority is provided to current high school students, non-high school musicians may participate in the program if they wish. In such cases, non-high-school musicians will be paired with other non-high-school musicians.

Strings for Solace is a non-profit organization founded in 2023 by N. Alexia Aridi, a high school student who plays the violin at Harvard Westlake School Symphony and Chamber Orchestra.

My grandmother suffered from Alzheimer’s, and nothing brought a smile to her face more than watching me and my sister perform for her. This became my source of inspiration to create Strings of Solace and grow it into a nation-wide program.
